As founder and President, Stephen G. Wurst is leading his team at SPACE ACCESS® to change the world by making space travel safe, environmentally friendly and affordable. Steve gained invaluable experience in hypersonic aerospace vehicle design while serving as Deputy Chief Engineer, National Aerospace Plane (X-30); Chief Engineer, Hypersonic Flight Test Experiment Program; and, Manager, Hypersonic Advanced Design at Rockwell International Corp. He also served as Director of Engineering for ITT Space Systems Division, where his engineers played an instrumental role in winning a national award as the U.S. Government's Aerospace Contractor of the Year, for outstanding performance on the development of satellite payloads. He has been awarded multiple patents for both aerospace systems and components and has received the Hertz Foundation Fellowship. After graduating from the US Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering, he attended the California Institute of Technology and earned a Masters degree in Aeronautics. He has served as an Officer in the US Air Force and California Air National Guard as a pilot and instructor of F-4 fighters, gliders, as well as tanker aircraft for over 20 years. He has been awarded dozens of aerospace and biomedical inventions and patents in the United States, China, Russia, Ukraine, Europe, Germany, France, and Great Britain. Steve is married and has three children.
HARRY A. SCOTT - EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, AEROSPACE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Harry A. Scott coordinates aerospace engineering and manufacturing. His management and design experience includes the X-30 National AeroSpace Plane (Chief Engineer), the Trans-Atmospheric Vehicle (Program Manager), X-15, XB-70, Apollo, the Space Shuttle (Lead Configuration Design), F-100, B-1B, and Saberliner. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and a Masters of Business Administration from Northrop University, and over 16 international aerospace patents.
JACK C. CARLSON - STABILITY AND CONTROL
Jack Carlson worked on the X-31, Air Force Trainers, Navy Stealth Jet, low signature VTOL concept, single stage satellite launch vehicle, small missile intercept concept, X21, LFC Research Aircraft, YF-17, A9-A, N156-F, and F89 programs prior to joining SPACE ACCESS®. Mr. Carlson earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with the Aero Option from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California.
WILLIAM L. FRANKLIN - DIRECTOR, STRUCTURES
William Franklin worked as the Project Engineer on the National AeroSpace Plane and SAAB-JAS Composite Wing programs prior to working for SPACE ACCESS®. He was the Lead Engineer and Deputy Program Manager on the Built-Up Low Cost Advanced Titanium Structure program. Mr. Franklin was the Lead Engineer on the Highly Maneuverable Aircraft Technology program and the Lead Structures Engineer on the X-15A-2. He was the Structural Design Engineer on the F-86, F-100, F-107, ASA, F-108, and XB-70.
FRANCIS J. SCHOELEN, INLET ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
Francis Schoelen has led inlet design, analysis and test teams on the B-1B, X-30 National Aerospace Plane, ATF, Supersonic Transport, L-1011, XB-70, F-108, and Mach 8 Boost Vehicle programs prior to joining SPACE ACCESS®. Mr. Schoelen earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He has also attended post-graduate courses in Aerodynamics and Boundary Layer Theory at the University of California at Los Angeles.
