Hydrogen in itself is extremely beneficial compared to the alternative petroleum based fuels; it is safe and reliable, cost effective, and environmentally friendly. Hydrogen has a high energy density, which means you can release more energy per pound of fuel, thus reducing the amount of fuel required to achieve suborbital flight.

However, hydrogen is not readily available as pure hydrogen molecules here on Earth (you can not pump it out of the ground or capture it in the air), so it must be generated. Most hydrogen is now produced by reforming petroleum-based hydrocarbons, such as natural gas. Dependence on this process for hydrogen generation would couple the price of hydrogen to the volatile price and availability of petroleum products, while unnecessarily releasing carbon emissions.

SA has researched cost effective and environmentally-friendly methods for generating hydrogen that do not require the use of petroleum. We have identified processes that are much more cost effective and sustainable than standard electrolysis. In fact, laboratory tests show these processes will allow us to create hydrogen at a cost that is less than the price you are now paying for the "equivalent" amount of gasoline!

We plan to construct a "pilot" plant and have it operational in time to fuel our flight test activity. Using these methods, the hydrogen we produce will be a highly cost effective green source of clean energy.
